Project Overview:
In the United States, throughout the years, illegal immigration has been a controversial issue in our society. The cases of family separations have taken a huge increase within the years. These separations will have a long-term negative impact on children's future well-being. Countries such as El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala have increased in violence and poverty; therefore, families seeking asylum. Others may believe these are criminals who are trying to flee their country but that is not the case.

The declarations of physicians, attorneys, parents, and detained children, themselves, confirm the inhumane conditions at these facilities. In these detention centers, they live without access to basic sanitation. Under extreme cold temperatures which resulted in referencing the centers as “la hielera,” otherwise known as “ice box.” These are unsafe and unsanitary conditions, five year olds have to face alone, or even take care of children because they’ve been separated.
